Biblioteca Rebeca

One down, eight to go

Bbintree Blackberry returned home almost exactly 24 hours after she disappeared on Canada Day.  We were very relieved.  Sahsez was at a sleepover Saturday night and so didn't know about the crisis until it was over.  I didn't tell her the last time the cat was AWOL either.  I think this is a good policy.

As for injuries, she doesn't seem to have sustained any serious ones.  She's limping slightly, but it doesn't appear to bother her and she is acting like hernormal slightly skittish and intermittently affectionate self.

Perman She'll be scaring the crap out of the house sparrows again very soon.

Blackberry AWOL

As a stupid, stressful, and worrying end to our Canada Day festivities, Blackberry got hit by a car (with TEXAS PLATES) forty-five minutes ago and ran off into a neighbour's yard.  Our search has been fruitless.

I'm leaving her food dish out on the porch tonight and I imagine I will be up frequently during the night to check for her return.  I hope she comes back and when she does, I hope she is not hurt too bad.

Noboru Wataya in da House

Puss_window Okay, that title doesn't actually make any sense unless you've read The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, so I suppose it's a bit of an injoke for those in my book club.  In the book, Noboru Wataya is the name given to a cat with a bent tail.  Later, the cat gets a new tail and a new name, but you'll have to read the book to find out all about that.  If you actually read it, and have a notion what that whole tail thing signifies, please do email me!  I can't figure it out.

Anyway, this is a Blackberry update.  We didn't end up taking her to the vet, since her mood seemed to improve more and more as the day wore on, and I knew that taking her to the vet would seriously harsh her gig.  I coaxed her back into the house after dinner and she was behaving normally at that point.  She slept with me that night and appeared completely recovered by Tuesday morning.

Bent_tail Today, she is again fine, and the tail even seems slightly less bent, though that could be just my imagination.  Maybe she will have a full recovery, and maybe she will keep this new, Watayaesque tail forever.  So long as she is not in pain, I'm not too concerned.

Poor Kitty

Well, I was going to do a nice weekend recap today, but I am too distraught.  Blackberry's tail got caught in a door about an hour ago and appears to be broken.  I tend to lose my mind when she gets hurt so I am all upset and scattered right now. Cat2_1

She seems to be not in too much pain.  She is walking around the backyard and licking herself a lot.  I fed her some of her favourite Friskas and she seemed to enjoy that and let me pet her and stuff.  But the tail is definitely damaged.  It's bent about two-thirds of the way up and while she's moving it around quite a bit, that top third is just dangling there.

Cat1_1 At 3:30 my mom will come home from work and then we will assess her and decide whether or not to take her into the vet.  Right now I'm thinking any pain relief she might get from a shot is not worth the trauma of catching her, stuffing her into a box, and carrying her down the road to the vet's office.  She hates the vet.  My poor girl!
